Teaching
In a class on the Mahabharata and Balinese performance at the University of Kentucky, students studied the story, practiced dance and puppetry, and researched the religious and aesthetic content. They then demonstrated their understanding by creating a performance that would reflect themes that would resonate with local communities.
As a theatre educator I believe it is a privilege to inspire the artists of the future, my duty to expect academic excellence, and my responsibility to engage students as thoughtful artists in a diverse world community. Theatre is a powerful tool for teaching skills of teamwork, creative thinking, and proactive problem solving that will benefit all students whether they pursue a career in theatre or not.
I have experience teaching courses about Asian theatre and performance, gender and sexuality, acting/directing/puppetry, performance studies, theatre history, dramatic theory and literature, and professional studies at both the undergraduate and graduate level and for community groups or professionals of all ages.
